The collaborative works on several efforts that support resident’s ability to connect, grow, and access healthy food. Throughout the year, edible flint’s work groups envision, plan and implement these efforts using a consensus based decision making model.
Garden Starters Training
is coordinated by the Garden Starters work group. The Training gives aspiring and existing food growers the skills and techniques necessary to work collaboratively to grow productive food gardens and utilize the valuable resource of available land in our city. Garden Starters Training, a thirteen week process, is held February through April each year. You can view a description of the training here:
Garden Starters Kits and Services
is coordinated by the Garden Starters work group. The Program provides soil testing, plants, seeds, compost and some basic services at reduced cost to Flint growers as they become available.
Annual Food Garden Tour
is planned by the Food Garden Tour work group. The tour occurs each year and highlights Flint’s food gardens.
Market Garden Training
is planned as needed for experienced gardeners by the edible flint co-op. These Trainings provide gardeners with the specialized skills necessary to grow food for a retail market.
Speakers' List
includes individuals engaging the Flint community in conversation related to the mission and activities of edible flint.
Food Vendor Assessment
was planned by the Access & Education work group and conducted by youth from around the City of Flint. The Assessment was the initial phase of a process intended to increase the amount of healthy food available to residents in underserved areas of our community.
